What is Suprax®?
Suprax® (pronounced Su-pracks) is a medicine belonging to a class of antibiotics called Cephalosporins. The active ingredient in Suprax® is Cefixime.
In what forms is Suprax® available?
Suprax® comes in tablets and oral suspension. The oral suspension may be used for any of the infections that Suprax® is approved to treat, while the tablets may be used for any approved indication other than otitis media.

Are antibiotics always needed to treat infections?
Antibiotics are only needed to treat infections caused by bacteria. Several infections in children are caused by viruses and these do not need to be treated with antibiotics.

For how many days do I need to give Suprax® to my child?
The recommended duration of treatment is usually 10 days, however, this may change based on the type of infection. Even if your child feels better after only a few days of treatment, it is important to continue the treatment for the entire course since this will prevent incomplete treatment of the infection and will also prevent the germs from becoming resistant to antibiotics in the future.

What are the side effects of Suprax® ?
The most common side effects of Suprax® are diarrhea, loose stools, nausea and abdominal pain. Some children may develop an allergic reaction to Suprax® that may cause fever, skin rash and in extreme cases breathing difficulty. Suprax® may also cause other side effects rarely. Please see the complete prescribing information guide for a comprehensive list of these side effects.

What if I miss a dose of Suprax® ?
Give the dose as soon as you remember, then try to space the next dose evenly till you resume the original schedule. Do not try to “catch-up” with the missed dose.

When should I call my doctor?
Call you doctor if the symptoms of your child’s infection are not responding or getting worse with the treatment. Also call your doctor if your child develops an allergic reaction, severe diarrhea or any other reaction that your doctor may not have told you about.

How can I avoid future infections?
Most bacterial or viral infections spread by close contact with other children or adults who may have these conditions. Though contact with others who may have infections cannot be practically controlled in a child, simple measures such as frequent handwashing, avoiding overcrowded situations and preventing exposure to passive smoking may lower the risk of catching infections.

How can I get more information about Suprax®?
